What the data says

Of the 203 pupils who finished Year 11 at The Downs School in 2023, 75% stayed on in The Downs School’s own sixth form (West Berkshire average 54%), 15% went to a further education college and 2% started an apprenticeship.

Among the 158 students who left the sixth form in 2023, 49% went to university (West Berkshire 42%, England 37%), and 38% of level 3 students progressed to one of the most selective universities, against 19% nationally.

German is unusually popular at GCSE: 27% of the year group took it, against 5% of pupils across England.

GCSE results in 2025 were above the national picture: Attainment 8 of 53.4 against 46.1 across England and 48.0 in West Berkshire, with 54% of pupils getting grade 5 or above in both English and maths (England 45%).
