Of the 265 pupils who finished Year 11 at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School in 2023, 62% stayed on in Durham Johnston Comprehensive School’s own sixth form (County Durham average 30%), 28% went to a further education college and 4% started an apprenticeship.
Among the 168 students who left the sixth form in 2023, 66% went to university (County Durham 32%, England 37%), and 59% of level 3 students progressed to one of the most selective universities, against 19% nationally.
GCSE results in 2025 were well above the national picture: Attainment 8 of 55.2 against 46.1 across England and 44.1 in County Durham, with 62% of pupils getting grade 5 or above in both English and maths (England 45%).
