What the data says
Of the 122 pupils who finished Year 11 at Energy Coast UTC in 2023, 34% stayed on in Energy Coast UTC’s own sixth form (Cumberland average 37%), 27% went to a further education college and 18% started an apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are a real route from here: 18% of leavers started one, roughly three times the England figure of 3%.
Among the 58 students who left the sixth form in 2023, 7% went to university (Cumberland 33%, England 37%), and 2% of level 3 students progressed to one of the most selective universities, against 19% nationally; 45% started an apprenticeship, well above the 7% England average.
GCSE results in 2025 were well below the national picture: Attainment 8 of 24.2 against 46.1 across England and 42.3 in Cumberland, with 12% of pupils getting grade 5 or above in both English and maths (England 45%).
